YTinstant.com – Search YouTube Instantly
“So what?” you may ask “YouTube is owned by Google and obviously they share technologies.”
Well, YTinstant.com was not developed by Google nor YouTube. Rather, it was developed by Feross Aboukhadijeh, a computer science student at Stanford University.
It works like a peach, just awesome! The videos come up as you start typing your search words. For example, I wanted to see if it recognized our famous Abdullah Ruwaished. Not only did YTinstant recognize Ruwaished, it also popped up my favorite song “Elly Nesak”
I am in love with this new website and the story of what happened after it went live is an inspiration for anyone working on the web.
After the launch of Google instant search, Feross made a bet with his roommate that he can develop a YouTube instant search functionality in one hour. Well, he lost the bet! It took him all of 3 hours (yes, only 180 minutes) to code this new website.
In 10 days, YTinstant registered more than 1 million visitors (including many Taw9eel employee’s!) and Feross was flooded with interview requests from NBC, CNN, WSJ, New York Times.. you name it!
So what? He’s gone viral. But that’s not the end of the story. Youtube CEO Chad Hurley offered Feross a job via twitter. Feross has since accepted the job but will continue with his studies at Standford University.
That’s the most productive three hours of work I have ever seen
